Yesterday we met at the cycling track in Nuremberg for the test drive of the new Mavic CC 40. First rule: you should always clean your bike before you meet cyclists. My excuse "I just drove through mud" didn't work when everything is dry and the sun is shining.
My bike was then immediately equipped with the new wheels, which suddenly gave it a completely new and lightning-fast face. Well then nothing could go wrong.
In anticipation of a leisurely evening tour, I was taught better. Riding with cyclists is stressful! After every bend and at every little hill, people pull up as if the yellow jersey was awarded there 500 meters further down the road. Second rule: never drive your time trial intervals in the morning if you later arrange to meet up for a “leisurely bike ride”. Schwerddi's little evening lap took on unimagined proportions. After we had to climb all the Spalter mountains 3 times, at the end of the day I was in the saddle for almost 200 kilometers.
But now to the test report: It was all great fun with the CC 40 wheels. For me personally as quite tall and heavy athletes (1.91 & 82kg), the most important thing is that the wheels are stiff. For fast times at least as important as aerodynamics, because otherwise too much energy is lost. My first carbon wheels back then were the Vuelta Carbon, which were so jarring when kicking the saddle that I had to keep turning up the brake shoes because otherwise they would keep grinding. Well, no comparison to the CC 40. Even when kicking the rock on the mountain and over long cobblestone passages, the wheels did not move a millimeter to the side. At some point I turned my brake shoes to the absolute minimum, about half a mm from the flank. Still nothing, great! Apart from the fact that these things are probably 2kg lighter than my normal road wheels.
Conclusion: highly recommended!
