Calendar goes overseas

The triathlon calendar 2011 started selling at the beginning of September a few weeks ago. In the meantime, many a specimen has come a long way. In addition to some who have gone to the USA, I am particularly pleased with the calendar shown above, which is hanging from Volker at the Mazar-e Sharif military base in Afghanistan.

Volker has been a triathlete since 1993 and has now completed over 15 Ironman. But what is even more remarkable, he is now in Afghanistan for a year and his job there is to train the local police force. Few of us are really concerned with what some of us are doing in Afghanistan and often only the military aspect of it is seen and the rest is ignored. I take my hat off to people like Volker and their daily achievements. Compared to that, finishing an Ironman feels almost like a walk. Speaking of which, I saw that Volker was registered for Challenge Roth 2011, all the best in the meantime and we'll see you there next July at the latest! By the way, you're not the only one in your barracks who has the calendar hanging on the wall 😉

Social projects
In the meantime we have already found some social projects that we would like to support with part of the income from the calendar. I would like to briefly introduce one thing here:

Drug withdrawal therapy in Hasselborn through sport
Frank Wagner has been working in Hasselborn for 16 years with clients who have opted for drug withdrawal. Frank is a social pedagogue with training in conversation and running therapy. His clients are from him VAE (Association for Work and Education Aid eV) cleverly. The prerequisite for admission to Hasselborn is the desire and active will to get away from drugs. The age of those affected starts from 14 years and up. Frank has three children himself and is an active triathlete. Most of his clients are Hartz IV recipients and have neither money for running clothes nor for any other sports equipment. Especially not the youngsters, of course. And that's where our part comes in. With the donation money from the Tri-Aktlon project, we would contribute to the purchase of running clothes and running shoes.

Of course, there are regular failures, but it is also not uncommon for therapy to help and each of us is probably familiar with the most famous example, Andreas Niederig. He also has good contacts in Hasselborn and has already provided support there.

a good start to the weekend!
