Hawaii preparation with a difference ...

Today an excerpt from the series, "Life is not easy with a triathlete in the house":

At the moment I am very divided, on the one hand I am of course happy about the athletes from my ranks who are currently preparing for the Ironman Hawaii in October and are already full of anticipation, expectations and doubts, but on the other hand I also envy them not for the fact that they still have to go through their tough sessions in this weather.

One who doesn't mind is my sports friend Stefan 🙂
He's starting in Hawaii for the first time this year and his motivation is correspondingly high! In order to prepare for the much-mentioned tropical conditions, he uses quite alternative training methods. Cycling in the sauna in the basement!
True to the motto: "Who is afraid of 38 degrees in Kona when they have 58 degrees at home in the basement!"

In order to simulate the most realistic conditions possible, there is an infusion every 10 minutes that increases the humidity. Because in Hawaii it is not only hot, but also humid. Whereby I had to observe the following: somehow the infusions got shorter and shorter after a while and Stefan's heart rate shot to unimagined heights, as it has never been seen on a bike 😉

But Stefan is a tough boy and pulls this off! You will recognize him in Kona by the fact that he is the only one wearing a thick sweater because he is freezing! The scenes are already beginning to take shape in front of my eyes: Paramedics on the track are completely overwhelmed when suddenly a blue and shivering athlete falls off the bike in front of their eyes!

So Stefan, don't overdo it! 😉

  1. hehe, nice work-up, thank you 🙂

The one with the sweater is really a suggestion. When the others at Pier Posen are no longer noticeable with Oakley, washboard and a silly Blendax grin - moon boots, ski pants and a really thick Icelander turtleneck would certainly be a burner there (in the truest sense of the word 😉

Unfortunately, the photo has become a boomerang for me, because it documents that I used the company iPad at 58 ° C in the sauna. I already mentioned it today, luckily the part withstood it and I can continue to work in the company - phew, cheers to Apple ... 🙂

    many Greetings
    Stefan

  2. Better to post a warning about cycling in the sauna "Do it yourself at your own risk" or something ... we crazy triathletes are enthusiastic about everything ... this is how a new training trend is born 😉
Good luck in Hawaii for your buddy, I will watch every minute in front of the PC and dream, because Hawaii will probably never see me as a triathlete ...
