The longer the better does not necessarily apply here. The article is in English and is principally based on a study; the author is also interested in selling such cranks. You should therefore read it a little more critically in any case.
The conclusions that the author draws, however, are very interesting and also well thought out.
To summarize as follows: with shorter cranks a more aerodynamic position is possible and the knee is also less stressed than with longer cranks. In addition, a shorter crank should have a positive effect on performance in flat terrain. In contrast, the cadence goes up, which can be a pain for some athletes. You also lose part of your performance when you start or on the mountain. These disadvantages are not mentioned in the article, but that's the opinion of some former professional cyclists I asked about.
