after the discussion in the last few posts increased Sport, work and family has arisen, I would like to take up the topic today. In the coming book, this will also be an important part of our concept.
I promised for a long time anyway that some of the answers I had received in various interviews and emails on the subject would be published here. Now I'll just start with it.
Some believe that my daily training and the goals I set for myself are only enhanced by the fact that I don't have children yet. This may really be one of the reasons and without having gained any experience with it, I am abstaining from my opinion.
I see other reasons for myself in one streamline time management and the Do without or limit unnecessary time wasterslike watching TV, playing the computer (which I sometimes do for hours during my break from the season 😉 and more.
But she proves that there is another way Story of Stefan.
Stefan is division manager of a large insurance company here in Fürth and works between 50-60 hours a week and has a happy family with two small children (1 and 6 years old).
In 2002 he was attacked by the endurance virus when he initially only wanted to reduce his weight by starting regular jogging. One thing after the other came and before he knew it, he wanted the Hawaii qualification.
He was able to fulfill this dream a few weeks ago at Ironman Wisconsin in 9:47 hours (the course is quite crisp and therefore a little slower)
Currently and before, he trained between 8-14 hours a week.
There are some important factors that he sees as responsible for balancing work, sport and family (here is an excerpt):
-Work is regeneration for the legs and training is regeneration for the brain 🙂
–Exercise almost always in the morning when the family is still sleeping and whatever the weather!
-To save time, no material fetish, Wheels are not cleaned but are brought in for repairs and maintenance every few months
-Perform short sessions intensely and long sessions progressively
-if it's possible Integrate familyFor example, together in the fun pool, there 2x400m full jug and walk back home while the family drives in the car
–flexibilityif no 3h Cycling are possible, then just an hour, but (you know what's coming now;) ... full pot!
-Focus: no other hobbiesDoing gossip with your buddies on the bike 😉
-and the most important, keep calm, no doggedness -
"Defeats / setbacks / illnesses / injuries etc. with a smile
accept - only if you get positive out of the sport, it will have an effect on family, friends, colleagues and encourage their willingness to support "
I think this is remarkable, here you can clearly see what such an amateur who wants to start in Hawaii has to do everything day after day in order to fulfill this dream. What counts here is the will, which is known to be able to move mountains 😉
in the sense ... hats off !!

Not “successful at work despite the triathlon”, but “successful at work, because of the triathlon”.
Because of their sport, triathletes are far superior to the normal population in terms of performance, planning, discipline, reflection and focus.
Triathlon is the perfect complement / balance to our office jobs today!
Wow ... with "only" 8-14 hours to Hawaii ... if THAT doesn't give you courage, all respect! Respect and congratulations!
That is really worth all due respect. Kudos to Stefan.
We are looking forward to your book, then we will try that too 😉
