A really great competition came to an unfortunate end for us today, my brand new chain (not yet driven 100km) broke at the beginning of the second lap ...
But one after anonther:
After potential partners had canceled until yesterday evening and I still needed someone for the Bike + Run today, I feared I would have to run the entire 17km alone while all the other teams would take turns cycling and running. But it didn't get that far, Daniel from Bamberg decided to help me out at short notice.
As already described a few weeks ago, the two-person team walked along a "very undulating" forest route, one rides the mountain bike and the other runs. They alternate at their own discretion and as the other teams quickly found out after the start, it was ideal to change every 20-30 seconds.
In the end, it was off the bike (while driving!), Handover to the teammate and then on foot and full throttle! As soon as you slowed down, change again, etc ... Right from the start we were at the limit. There is no better “coupling interval training”! 😉
It was not bad for us, after we started the first lap a little more cautiously, we were able to move past Michi Hofmann and his partner to 5th place at the end of the first lap. And that even though I thought 10 minutes after the start that my partner Daniel was about to have a heart attack 🙂 But then he got better and better and after a few attempts the switch between the two of us was perfect.
In 5th position, the first teams came towards us shortly before the turning point, including Frank and Andi, and Bennie and Joachim, and they were only 300m away! There was still something going on!
After km 9 the chain broke from the mountain bike and we stood at the edge of the track like the oil idols and saw one team after the other go by again.
Giving up wasn't an option, so we decided to push the bike next to us. I shouldered the broken chain on my back (it was new and cost 30 € ... haha) and off we went again.
On the last 8km we still lost a few minutes, but at least we were able to hold our own in midfield and rolled over the finish line after 1:06 in three (Daniel, the bike and me). Congratulations to Stephan and Micha, who passed us on the second lap 😉
Great fun !!!
After the “winners of the hearts” were honored (Daniel, the bike and me;), I went home richly presented with two pairs of functional socks!
… Ok, actually all teams received prizes 🙂
The whole thing was organized by http://www.fun-race.org/, ie Joachim Weinbrenner, Michi Hofmann and Bennie Lindberg. There you will also find the results lists, more photos and a video of the race.
Incidentally, Dorian Wagner's team won in the men's category, shortly before the team of German duathlon champion Florian Holzinger. And the amazing thing about the women was that the two winners 11 !! Had children. Woaw ...
Next Saturday it's all about the Nikolauslauf in Forchheim! I hope for a high 34er time in the 10km run there, or at least the best time (so far at 36:30 within the tria competition). I should only lose 3kg and then it will definitely work 😉
have a nice Sunday!
krelli
Absolutely to be recommended! Great "competition" with great people.
Greetings,
Daniel
PS Saturday's going to be fast (-;
Great, you have a fighting spirit where many would have given up, hats off! Reading the report was great fun again, whether you want to participate is another question ... * smile * ...
the run is on Saturday
Not that there is a bad surprise.
Hi Christian,
thanks for the information! Are you there too?
greetings
krelli
Hey daniel,
thank you again for taking part, in the end I was more of the "flatterer" of the two of us.
Next week you have to pull me over the course 😉
greetings
krelli
@ Krelli
pulling is not ... I will club you with the rod from Knecht Ruprecht to a new best time ((-;
Hey daniel,
not that the readers get it wrong 😉
The one with the rod is an allusion to the name of the run: Nikolauslauf ... haha
hmmmm… I'm worried Krelli, rod, clubs and who is this servant 🙂?
Look forward to next week,
Tobi
Well then I'll hang on to the 34 train for the first kilometer 🙂
I'm really looking forward to Saturday, after that a good fudge of chocolate is appropriate ...
greetings
