It is not the overtraining conditions or the overload conditions that bring most triathletes to the premature end of the season, no, it is unfamiliar movements in everyday life that take the greatest toll! At least in my circle of friends.
How often have I heard that one of my training partners had to say goodbye to the annual build-up prematurely, for example due to an injury in football. In all the time before, they don't even look at a soccer ball because they don't have time for swimming, cycling and running. And then they kick a ball in the park or on the football field and it happens ... a too violent duel, an unfamiliar twist, it doesn't matter, these injuries usually have serious consequences for triathletes or endurance athletes! This also applies to all contact sports, not just football. Other examples in my eyes would be handball, hockey, rugby, etc.
But why is that, we used to play football almost every day and nothing ever happened to us? Above all, it is the suddenly unfamiliar movements that the body has to cope with. Our entire musculoskeletal system, muscles, tendons and joints are stressed enough by daily training anyway, sometimes to the extreme in the summer months. It is precisely then that such a body is extremely prone to injuries of all kinds.
Furthermore, triathletes are used to demanding everything. And so harmless Bolz skirmishes quickly get to the DFB Cup final in which no one wants to back off !! Take it easy, you don't have to “shine” everywhere 😉
Rather see it as a “break” from training and relax with friends with a kick in the park in the sun. Especially with such friends who have nothing else to do with triathlon and the like, it is a refreshing distraction from the inner focus! At the same time you can warm up the old stories again and show them that you don't just have triathlon in mind. If you don't succeed, they won't stay friends for long, according to the motto: "Out of sight, out of mind."
skin in!
