It's amazing what can happen to normal triathletes when they just want to do a leisurely lap at a basic pace. Happened today during my lunch break. The normal round was planned, about 45 minutes relatively easy.
Unsuspecting, I turned into the park and enjoyed the most beautiful sunshine until suddenly a shadow slowly approached my position from behind. When I overtook me, I recognized the species immediately, slim legs, spindly, it was a runner!
Ok, I thought to myself, let's just run a few meters, because you don't like to be overtaken, especially since you greet you in a friendly way and don't even get a reaction 😉 So I stuck to his heels. The first kilometer was now over, it should be mentioned that I recently got the new Garmin 310, which gives the elapsed time via signal and shake alarm every 1000m, great function! Ok, the first kilometer as I said, in 04:09 ... hmmm that wasn't entirely the basis, but my opponent will soon stop and turn, then it'll be nice again 🙂
Apparently unimpressed by my pursuit, he reeled off the next kilometer at 04:09 am. Was that a Swiss clockwork in front of me, disguised as a runner? At some point my snooping probably got too annoying for him and he got dressed. Not so hastily my unknown running companion ..., I stayed with it ... Kilometer 3 passed very quickly, namely in 03:56. I was slowly getting very warm, I was already wearing half my winter gear and wanted to run comfortably. Halfway through, he suddenly started to turn around and walk back the same way. I had to decide within seconds! My plans for this unit have already been completely thrown overboard and on the way too fast, I decided not to let him get away with it and to turn around "by accident".
In the meantime I could hardly enjoy the beautiful sunny day anymore, on the contrary, I had to keep squinting because all the sweat was running into my eyes (if I had only taken my hat with me). We gritted our teeth and ran the next kilometer in 03:46. Now it also dawned on me that I might have picked the wrong one for my post-puberty games. Nothing would have been more embarrassing than tearing it down now. I decided to attack, passed him and accelerated. He stayed behind me for now, such a stubborn buck that he doesn't just give up !!
Kilometer 5 passed and the clock showed 03:34, slowly I began to taste the lactate, which didn't exactly put a smile on my face. What could the oncoming cyclists have thought when they saw both of us like this?
Out of the blue he suddenly passed me, in my defense you have to say that he was breathing heavily and of course he could trot comfortably in my slipstream for the last kilometer, and accelerated again. I was able to keep up with his battered 3:20 pace for a few hundred meters, but then I fell back inch by inch, the defeat almost in front of my eyes. After a few hundred meters more, it happened to me, “by chance” my turnoff to the company came, and what should I do: “Work comes first”, so I turned off and walked back to the entrance with stars in front of my eyes.
So much for my basic training today! So if there's one thing I absolutely can't stand, it's people who can't let anyone overtake them, ugh !!! 😉
You always meet twice!
skin in!

nice story - it's a shame that we didn't meet you that day with our "active digestion group" - I would have liked to see that!
It's nice that you can swim again 🙂
many Greetings
Stefan
Yes, we would probably have knocked over your active digestive group if you hadn't jumped to the side quickly ... laughs
