In honor of today's holiday, my brother and I tried to overcome the boundaries between asphalt and water and took part in the 3rd Waldenburg Canoe Triathlon. A very nice event with a high fun factor. The first team partner had to complete a 1.65km lap around the lake, while his partner then did two laps on the bike. Then both of them jumped on a shaky canoe and tried to paddle down the 500 meter long course, which was spiked with chicanes.
The teams started at 10 a.m. in different categories, with different ratings from mixed teams, family teams and men's teams. We started from the latter category in the second preliminary round. The fastest and fastest teams in each case ultimately made it to the final run.
After a pretty good start, we lost a few places in cycling in the first run, but were then able to defend our fourth place in the water. As the fifth fastest team overall, we made it into the final of the remaining 10 teams.
Here we switched to the second team after 5:15 minutes and my brother, this time a little more courageous, was able to overtake the first one and save our lead for the change until the end of the second lap.
Now came the most dangerous part of the whole competition, at least for us, in the beginning it was first of all not to fly into the water when getting into the canoe 😉
We paddled first, and still a bit uncoordinated, as you can see here. We had practiced for 5 minutes before the competition.
At the chicane, after 2/3 of the way, the team from the Glauchau Canoe Club was finally able to sneak past us. Here we wanted to ram it at the turning buoy, but first got a big gush of water into the boat ... laughs
We bravely beat the water to a pulp with our paddles, but there was no getting past this team, in the end we ended up pretty knocked out in second place. Our time was 5:58 p.m., well, there is still something going on next year!
Thanks to the organizers for the great event, to my father for his support of the event and the numerous spectators. Also congratulations to all the other teams, a very tough competition.
have a beautiful Sunday!
