Yesterday my friend ran her first 10km run in Kallmünz, and of course I was there 🙂
Designed as a coupling unit, a wonderful training stimulus. I rode the 90km from Nuremberg to Kallmünz by bike. Half of the time I had to stop at Andi's in Kastl and had him give me a jersey and vest, I felt so cold. From the promised 10 hours of sun in the weather report, I got a maximum of 30 minutes.
Thankfully, the remaining stretch was very flat along the Naab, in the meantime I had the feeling that I couldn't make it to the start on time. The 10 competition actually went as planned, I had a 36 time again. Through all of my paired training sessions over the past few weeks and months, it now seems that it makes little difference to running performance whether I was cycling before or not.
Here are the results, click!
Julia also ran great, she was also at the finish line after 56 minutes 🙂
Developments in the running scene
For the last few years, I've been getting the feeling that the runner scene is thinning out at the top. 10-20 years ago, with such a time, I would never have crossed the finish line as a 6. Before doing that, you have to keep in mind that the Franconian record, for example, which is around 29:58 on the 10km, was a while back and was set at the end of the 1970s. In the meantime, more and more triathletes can be seen in the front area of the running competitions, but they are not able to run these times due to their well-known 3-way training. With the exception of the national tip, perhaps.
A very good runner told me that he was of the opinion that on the one hand, running is no longer as long and as hard as it used to be, and that running has probably lost its popularity at the top. Again, there appears to be two reasons for this. The association's support, including financial support, is no longer as it used to be. In addition, the gap to the African runners, at international level, is often "demotivating" large in order to motivate more youngsters to participate in top-class sport.
Let's hope that the Africans don't come up with the idea of doing triathlons at some point 😉
However, this will probably not happen anytime soon. If only because of the material costs and the fact that there would have to be swimming pools on a broad front, which unfortunately do not exist there.
have a beautiful Sunday!
