Andreas Raelert is planning a so far unique action next Sunday at the Ironman Regensburg. Out of "consideration for his current physical condition" he will collect money for a charitable cause instead of fighting against his professional colleagues for victory. Together with his partners, he wants to donate between ten and 20 euros for every athlete who reaches the finish line in Regensburg's old town before him. "I think it is realistic to place myself in the middle of all participants," explains the 34-year-old on his Facebook page. The 2010 Hawaii runner-up leaves his fans to whom the donation, which would then be between 10,000 and 20,000 euros, should benefit. "I am very much looking forward to your suggestions," Raelert continued. On paper, the Rostock is the big favorite for the second edition of the Ironman Regensburg. But because he doesn't need any points for the Kona Pro Ranking, but only has to show an Ironman finish at the World Triathlon Corporation in order to be able to be in Hawaii on October 8th, Raelert can afford the unique luxury of watching the race with the handbrake on deny. www.tri-mag.de
Very personable Andi !!
That's exactly how I did it at the Rothsee Run when donations were collected for the earthquake victims in Haiti, only that in my case, if I was in the middle of the field, they didn't pay € 10,000-20,000 😉
