At the weekend I was on the road as a supporter at the Gigathlon in Switzerland. My Julia and Nicole (one of my very tough athletes) started as a team of two, including two supporters, Anja and me.
The two girls did exceptionally bravely and delivered a great competition. Especially when you consider that on Saturday it was incredibly hot on the first day and then on Sunday it was only 15 degrees and sometimes torrential continuous rain. In that time you have 17 hours of competition every day and covered countless vertical meters (inline skating, swimming, mountain biking, running, racing biking)
Nicole looked something like that when she reached the finish line at around 0:30 on the second day. My respect not only to the two of them, but also to all the other finishers !! I always thought to myself, yes, Gigathlon, this is something for adventure tourists ... but was taught better on the weekend. Very demanding competition, as a single starter almost like two Ironman in two days.
As a supporter, the competition should not be underestimated either. Two days of sleep deprivation, traveling all day from transition zone to transition zone and preparing everything and driving back to Nuremberg for another 5 hours at night. Anja and I are exhausted!
Have a good start into your week!
